Salmagundi Club 149th Annual Black & White Exhibit & Sale
January 6, 2026 – January 30, 2026
Rockwell Gallery, Salmagundi Club
47 Fifth Avenue
The first Annual Black & White Exhibition at NYC Greenwich Village’s esteemed Salmagundi Club took place in 1878, just a few years after the Club was established. The exhibition hosted a brilliant coterie of artists of that day. Initially, many of the Black & White artworks were illustrations.
As interest in the Black & White monochromatic palette increased, the yearly Salmagundi exhibitions provided artwork for numerous purposes: book and magazine illustration, advertising and wall art. Many of the works in early Black & White shows were reproduced in the newly established magazine market of the late 19th century. The Salmagundi Black & White Exhibition has become an annual tradition, including illustration and many fine artworks and fine art photography.
Salmagundi’s Annual Black & White Exhibition continues as a venerable Salmagundi tradition. Using the theme of Black & White, Salmagundi Club’s artists exhibit their art in different media, such as photography, painting, drawing and sculpture, focusing on numerous subjects. Visitors to this annual event are captivated by the variety and scope of works on view at the Salmagundi’s Black & White Exhibition.
